Offer Restrictions: Traffic Types, GEOs, etc.

The world of affiliate marketing is vast: there are so many different ways you can promote an endless number of different offers!

As an affiliate, you must know that most offers have restrictions of some kind!

Sometimes those restrictions can be confusing or unclear if you are not familiar with them. A few types of the restrictions you will encounter include:

  • Traffic Types - Not all offers will allow you to send any kind of traffic you want. For example, some offers may allow you to bid on their brand name as a keyword using paid search traffic; while others may not allow any kind of search traffic! That is just one example, be sure to read an offer's description to ensure your traffic type is allowed.
  • GEOs - Some offers will accept traffic from just about any geo (i.e., country), but most will only accept traffic from specific geos. In our platform, you can see country restrictions in both the Offer's Description and the Offer's Targeting Settings.
    • Please note: Some offers are GEO Locked, and will block clicks coming from outside of the targeted GEO - click here to learn more about GEO Locking.
  • Content Moderation - Almost all offers have content restrictions, meaning you cannot say whatever you want to promote the product! You can find an offer's specific policy on content within the Offer's Description, but some content types are banned by us as a network.
  • Day Parting - Occasionally, an offer will want to restrict traffic to specific days of the week, and/or specific hours within that day. Most often this will be seen on certain types of lead generation offers, that may limit traffic to business days (Monday-Friday) and/or working hours (e.g., 9AM - 5PM EST). Traffic sent outside of these hours may be redirected, blocked, or not convert.
  • Caps - If an offer has a "cap", it means there is a set budget to adhere to. Most of the time, you will see caps in the form of a certain # of conversions within a specific time frame (e.g., 100 conversions per day, or 50 total test cap). Once you fill your cap, you will either need to wait until the next time period, or request additional cap from your account manager
  • SubID Approval - This refers to the condition that an affiliate is only allowed to promote an offer if the advertiser of the offer approves their affiliate ID. Most often, this will require you to submit your creatives and landing pages for approval before you can run the offer.

This is by no means an exhaustive list - there are many possible types of restrictions an offer may have. You can always find the restrictions within the Offer's Description. You can often find some of these in the title of the offer as well!

If you violate an offer's restrictions, you may be paused on the offer, have your conversions cancelled, or possibly even lose your account with us. So, always make sure you promote offers the way you are supposed to!
